What is Hair Mineral Analysis?

INTRODUCTION TO HAIR TISSUE MINERAL ANALYSIS

Our approach to nutritional balancing is to look at the body as a complete system rather than try to zero in on particular conditions or illnesses. To do this, we consider what is happening at the cellular level. If the function of the cell is not performing at optimum efficiency, then the individual system these cells make up become inefficient which in turn affects the entire body.

To get an overview of the entire system at the cell level we run a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA). This is a soft tissue mineral biopsy which determines the mineral content of the hair. Testing is done by Analytical Research Labs in Phoenix, AZ. using the Perkin Elmer Elan 9000 ICP Mass Spectrometer to assess mineral levels in parts per million or parts per billion. A hair tissue mineral analysis is considered standard testing and used around the world for the biological monitoring of trace elements and toxic metals in human and animal species. Frequently asked questions concerning the hair analysis can be found here, while information about the controversies can be found here.

What can be determined from hair analysis?

Minerals are sometimes called the “sparkplugs” of the body. They are needed for millions of enzymes as co-factors, facilitators, inhibitors and as part of the enzymes themselves. As a result, they have a great deal to do with the health of our bodies. By analyzing mineral imbalances in the body, one can learn a lot about the causes and correction of hundreds of common physical and mental health conditions.

The information gained from this test provides a mineral blueprint of your biochemistry which allows for the determination of:

  1. Metabolic rate (oxidation rating)

  2. Whether energy levels are adequate and sustainable

  3. The level and type of stress you may be laboring under

  4. If there is an adequate utilization of sugars/carbohydrates which affect energy and other metabolic conditions

  5. Glandular activity (adrenals and thyroid)

  6. Immune function

Coupling this information with your pet's profile, which includes a typical daily diet, medications and supplements being taken and symptoms he may be experiencing, allows us to provide a personalized diet and supplemental program to speed corrections of his mineral patterns.

Benefits from this program?

  1. Those interested in maximizing their pets overall health

  2. Those whose pets just do not feel “right”

  3. Those with pets that labor with a chronic disease and want to work on balancing their nutrition to help with their condition

What will you receive with the analysis?

  1. A dietary profile that includes:

  2. A basic dietary recommendation based on oxidation ratings

  3. Food preparation tips

  4. Eating habits

  5. Information on cooking, shopping, and other consumer information

  6. A customized supplement program designed to speed the balancing process

  7. Lifestyle recommendations to increase the detoxification process
